Life in Christendom

What is the vision of life that we are called to delight in? What does life under the throne of grace look like for families, cats and bankers? Here is my attempt at making some inroads into the beauty of a Christ centred life.

Living as Free Men

Live as Free Men - Sermo Humilis

Because we believe in a sovereign God who rules the whole world, right down to the death of sparrows, the naming of stars and the number of hairs on your head, we also believe in the doctrine of inerrancy. This means that we believe that the word of God is error free. This does … [Read more...] about Living as Free Men

Open the Heavens - Sermo Humilis

Like the Wizard of Oz, the gods of this world want you to be dazzled from a distance while they remain hidden behind a curtain. But the God who made Heaven and Earth wants you to share in His glory and the abundance and so He entered into this world. He entered into this world in … [Read more...] about Open the Heavens

The God Who Saves

The God Who Saves - Sermo Humilis

The Christian faith stands unique in all of history as the only faith that has a God who saves. Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva do not save. The god of Islam does not save. Confucius does not save. Buddha does not save. Atheism does not save. The state does not save. These all admit … [Read more...] about The God Who Saves

A Simple Faith

A Simple Faith - Sermo Humilis

The Christian faith is not a complicated faith. Repent and believe the Gospel, that your sins may be blotted out and times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord (Acts 3:19-20). Believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead and in so doing, washed away all your … [Read more...] about A Simple Faith

Pondering God’s Goodness in our Distress

Pondering God's Goodness in our Distress - Sermo Humilis

First, read this hymn by Horatio Spafford, When peace, like a river, attends my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this … [Read more...] about Pondering God’s Goodness in our Distress

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
