The Right Kind of Fright - Sermo Humilis

Martin Luther once pointed out that the difference between the Devil and God was the point at which they frightened you. God frightens us in order to bring us to our senses, the Devil frightens us, having first numbed them. God affrights us upon our first encounter with … [Read more...] about The Right Kind of Fright

#07 Impossible Holiness - A Survey of Christ in the Old Testament

After three months of wandering (and grumbling), Israel has finally made it to Sinai. Here, the Covenant promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be spelled out and ratified in the giving of the Law and the sprinkling of blood. Having arrived at Sinai, Moses does not wait … [Read more...] about #07 Impossible Holiness – OT Survey

When the Fever Breaks - Sermo Humilis

The world is currently in the grip of a panicked fever. But fevers break, and so will this. In the meantime, many believers are concerned about having a good testimony. They want to be seen doing what everybody around them thinks is the right thing. But, as someone put it … [Read more...] about When the Fever Breaks

(Job … [Read more...] about Lord of the Panic

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
