But now, in that Spirit, we have been gathered together, and these people have … [Read more...] about Loving One Another, in Particular

The Resurrection of the World - sermo humilis

Many Christians think that the resurrection is something that needs to be proven. It is challenged by unbelievers, and so we assemble our arguments to show that Jesus did too rise from the dead. But the resurrection is not something requiring proof. It is proof. The New … [Read more...] about The Resurrection of the World

Grace. A Risky Proposition

Grace is Risky - sermo humilis

Man, being made in the image of God, cannot live without a mediator. He needs someone to act between himself and whatever it is that he thinks is running the universe. Whether it be God, gravity or government. “You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the … [Read more...] about Grace. A Risky Proposition

Ants for the Sluggard - sermo humilis

The bible is not a scientific book, it is argued. And I agree. It is way more than that. It is the final and only infallible authority on all science. It tells us how the world is made, how it is sustained, what it requires to flourish and how a lion kills its prey. Nothing … [Read more...] about Go to the Ant, You Sluggard

Feasting with Laughter

Feast for Laughter - sermo humilis

The hospitality of encouraging words does not always have to be grey or dull. Take communion as but one example of the many feasts we celebrate. What does the Lord's supper look like in your church? Are the faces of the people as stale as the bread sometimes is? Solomon once … [Read more...] about Feasting with Laughter

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
