How Not to Talk to an Angel

How Not to Talk to an Angel - Sermo Humilis

Motherhood is only ever praised in scripture. Being childless is only ever a source of grief. The declaration, "I'm so glad I don't have kids", is so antithetical to the Gospel, and faith, it beggars belief. The reason it beggars belief is that childbirth is tied to this worlds' … [Read more...] about How Not to Talk to an Angel

A Man Called Peter

A Man Called Peter - Sermo Humilis

Peter's life is a rich example of what it means to be held on to, rather than to be holding on. What it means to be made strong, rather than to be strong. His life was cut short, but the fruitfulness of his labour has been long, real long. Peter was one of Jesus Christ's … [Read more...] about A Man Called Peter

Collision

Collision - Sermo Humilis

Our culture is headed for a collision, one that relates to the image of God. The faithful understand that an attack on the image of God is an attack on God - kinda like what happens when the grandkids visit, and one of them grabs a big black marker and draws a moustache on the … [Read more...] about Collision

Words that Matter - Humility - Sermo Humilis

The sinful heart of modern man has managed to turn humility on its head. Humility used to mean being certain about what God thinks and doubtful about what we think. Today, being certain is arrogance, and being doubtful is praised as the virtue of humility. Did God really … [Read more...] about Humility

The Matthew Principle - Sermo Humilis

The Matthew Principle, sometimes known as the Matthew Effect is a concept used in education and economics to describe the principles governing growth or decline. It's based on the words of Jesus in Matthew's Gospel 13:12. The principle is used reliably in the world of economics … [Read more...] about The Matthew Principle

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
