It’s Good to Forget

11 October 2020 By David Trounce

Heaven, it has been said1, is not a hallway of mirrors. That would be more like a freakish hell than a heavenly bliss. You, you, nobody but you. Seeing nothing, hearing nothing, but you, you, you, for all eternity. Such a world would be joyless agony. Our own … [Read more...] about It’s Good to Forget

#61 Jesus, Tradition - The Life and Times of Jesus

In John 13:1-35 Jesus shows us that His love for His disciples will be the same love that His followers will have for one another. By this love, made visible in Christs' tradition of sacrificial service, all the world will know that we belong to Jesus. In the last week of His … [Read more...] about Jesus, Tradition

Pray for them that Keep Watch - Sermo Humilis

A servant of the gospel has a simple task. Shepherd the flock that is among you (1 Peter 5:2). Simple, but often overwhelming in practice. If the current chaos that God has sent upon the world is stress-testing the saints, then how much more those called to guide, guard and … [Read more...] about Pray for them that Keep Watch

Jesus, His Love for Us

#51 Jesus, His Love for Us - The Life and Times of Jesus

Our attempt to find assurance by looking inward and measuring the quantity and quality of our love for Jesus is a fruitless task and rarely ends well. Thankfully, the grounds of our salvation is not our love for Jesus but His love for us. John chapter 10 is the last of Jesus' … [Read more...] about Jesus, His Love for Us

Know the Truth - Sermo Humilis

I once heard the story of a mother who’d been lied to by her 6-year-old son. To make the point that lying is bad news and destroys the joy in relationships, the mum said, “OK, for the next whole week you won’t know whether I’m telling the truth or lying.” The next day, driving … [Read more...] about Honest Lips

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
