The Little Foxes

25 September 2022 By David Trounce

Those Little Foxes - Sermo Humilis

It's the little foxes, said Solomon, who ruin the vineyard (Song of Solomon 2:15). This saying is true and worthy of all acceptance. It's also a good analogy of the way sin operates, and the way that life's ordinary circumstances can bring us to our knees. Big things do … [Read more...] about The Little Foxes

Where the Kangaroo Falls, There is Holy Ground

4 September 2022 By David Trounce

Violence - Sermo Humilis.png

Rarely a day goes by when I do not see at least one dead kangaroo on an Australian road. After a century of cars on roads, they're still not good at navigating the traffic and will often run in the wrong direction. I sympathise with each death, but the one I saw this week … [Read more...] about Where the Kangaroo Falls, There is Holy Ground

Our efforts to help others - sermo humilis

Some sins are more subtle than others. Take our desire to change people and see them conformed to our ideas and hopes. This sin is often cloaked as a virtue, "I just want to help you...". Simply put, this is a desire to play God. The desire to see people change is a good … [Read more...] about Like Cutting Cheesecake with a Chainsaw

Singing the Blues In Psalms - Sermo Humilis

In James chapter 5:13-16, we have a bundle of everyday issues that every Christian has to deal with. Sin, sickness and suffering among them. The wisdom here is practical and godly, giving the believer who taps into it a reason to sing. Is anyone among you suffering? Let him … [Read more...] about Singing the Blues

Rejoicing in Judgement

3 March 2022 By David Trounce

Rejoicing in Gods Judgement - Sermo Humilis

It may seem odd at first that we should rejoice in judgement, but the fact is that we do it every day. The only time we don't rejoice in judgement is when the judgement has gone against us. Which is a good reason to be on the right side of history. We rejoice when the court … [Read more...] about Rejoicing in Judgement

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
