The seven parables of Matthew 13 … [Read more...] about We are on Schedule

In Pursuit of Harmony

Comments - sermo humilis

Culture is religion externalised. It's what you get when you practise your religion (your 'cultus') in public life. Harmony is what you get when that culture all flows from a single source. Our culture includes our views on marriage, clothing, morality, seatbelts and the … [Read more...] about In Pursuit of Harmony

6 Weeks Before Marriage - Thy Husbands Racket

Living redemptively means seeking to play out the gospel in marriage. It's an ongoing, visual display between a husband and wife of Christs' willingness to cover our shame. It doesn't condone or overlook sin and weakness. It covers sin and weakness with grace. What should be a … [Read more...] about 6 Weeks before Marriage – Thy Husbands’ Racket

When Heaven Makes You Homesick - sermo humilis

Earth is our home and, knowing full well we could never ascend into the heavens, God has come down. Never-the-less, many Christians still think (due to popular media) that the end-game is to hoist our bums onto galactic seats. The goal of the Gospel is clear. "Thy Kingdom … [Read more...] about If Heaven Makes You Homesick

Full of Grace and Truth

Grace and Truth - sermo humilis

What should the world see when it looks at us? It should see Jesus Christ. Not a list of man-made regulations under which to bury Him, and not something approximating Oprah at a rave party. Our actions and our speech are always pointing somewhere. Either we are saying and … [Read more...] about Full of Grace and Truth

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
