Heavens’ Gate

Heavens' Gate - Sermo Humilis

The Bible portrays Jesus as the bridge who restores the relationship between God and mankind. Nobody comes to the Father, but by Me, says Jesus. This is what the Word of God means when it refers to Jesus as our Mediator. The need for a mediator arises from the fact that we are … [Read more...] about Heavens’ Gate

Two Great Evils

Two Great Evils - Sermo Humilis

Blaise Pascal once said that mankind suffers from two great evils: Pride and lust. Pride, he said, repels us from heaven while lust binds us to earth.1 I think he's right. Pride causes us to kick against the sovereignty of God in heaven while lust causes us to cling to and … [Read more...] about Two Great Evils

It’s Good to Forget

11 October 2020 By David Trounce

Heaven, it has been said1, is not a hallway of mirrors. That would be more like a freakish hell than a heavenly bliss. You, you, nobody but you. Seeing nothing, hearing nothing, but you, you, you, for all eternity. Such a world would be joyless agony. Our own … [Read more...] about It’s Good to Forget

24 Jesus, Shaking Heaven and Earth - The Life and Times of Jesus

In Matthew 5:17, Jesus tells the disciples that He came to fulfil the law and the prophets. He came to put them both into force, to accomplish their purpose, satisfy their demands and fulfil their expectations. In the next verse, Jesus goes on to say, For truly, I say to you, … [Read more...] about Jesus, Shaking Heaven and Earth

Never-the-less, many Christians still think (due to popular media) that the end-game is to hoist our bums onto galactic seats. The goal of the Gospel is clear. "Thy Kingdom … [Read more...] about If Heaven Makes You Homesick

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
