And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on … [Read more...] about Bat On… Reflections on the Great Commission

The Sin of Obedience

The Sin of Obedience - Sermo Humilis

Obedience is an essential part of what it means to belong and is tied to the things we worship. We obey the rules of our tribal gods in order to keep our place in the tribe. Not belonging is an awful business and so, under the threat of exclusion, we are prepared to make all … [Read more...] about The Sin of Obedience

#14 Jesus and Fruit Bearing - Jesus Through all of Life

After a person has been a Christian for a while, it's natural for them to start asking themselves, "how am I doing?" We ask it as a church also. “This is the Way...”, said Jesus. So, how's that walk with Jesus going? Some see only thorns and thistles and miss the small growing … [Read more...] about #14 Jesus and Fruit Bearing

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church.
