Blessed Assurance

11 December 2022 By David Trounce

Blessed Assurance

One of the things that accompanies a new babe in Christ is the absolute assurance that Jesus saves and has indeed saved him. That Jesus forgives, and has indeed forgiven him. However, through the passage of time, some slow progress, and numerous falls, some of us begin to doubt … [Read more...] about Blessed Assurance

The Righteousness of Lot

The Righteousness of Lot - Sermo Humilis

Lot was a difficult man to deal with, ask any angel ( Genesis 19:15-16). He may have been a little self serving, just ask his uncle (Genesis 13:8-9), and was clearly lacking in discretion, just ask his daughters (Genesis 19:7-8). Lot pitched his tent as far as Sodom, ended up … [Read more...] about The Righteousness of Lot

Storms, Swine and Salvation

Storms, Swine and Salvation - Sermo Humilis

In Mark 5:1-21 we learn that Jesus is Immanuel, God with us, and we learn it's implications. Jesus had been teaching in parables by the sea of Galilee. His platform was a fishing boat. When He had finished, He asked the disciples to push out in to open water and cross to … [Read more...] about Storms, Swine and Salvation

A Place Among the Wicked

It is Finished - Sermo Humilis

Isaiah 53 tells us that they had given Jesus a place among the wicked. At least that was their plan. ...And they made his grave with the wicked (Isaiah 53:9) This was not a problem for Jesus and is another example of the irony we find throughout Matthew 27. They seek to put … [Read more...] about A Place Among the Wicked

The God Who Saves

18 November 2021 By David Trounce

The God Who Saves - Sermo Humilis

The Christian faith stands unique in all of history as the only faith that has a God who saves. Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva do not save. The god of Islam does not save. Confucius does not save. Buddha does not save. Atheism does not save. The state does not save. These all admit … [Read more...] about The God Who Saves

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
