How Not to Talk to an Angel

How Not to Talk to an Angel - Sermo Humilis

Motherhood is only ever praised in scripture. Being childless is only ever a source of grief. The declaration, "I'm so glad I don't have kids", is so antithetical to the Gospel, and faith, it beggars belief. #7-8 The Hand of God - Studies in the Book of Ezra

The time is about 60 years after the first return from Babylon, and in this chapter, we finally meet Ezra. There is a pattern of thought repeated throughout these chapters. In Ezra 4:4, the opposition toward God's people causes their “hands to drop”. In Ezra 6:22, God, through … [Read more...] about Ezra #7-8 – The Hand of God

Bright Eyes and Happy Hearts - Sermo Humilis

With young couples struggling to save up for a deposit on their first iceberg lettuce1, and firefighters dressed in full PPE gear being told they are a threat to public health2, it's no wonder that people are feeling a little disorientated. And perhaps that was the point all … [Read more...] about Bright Eyes and Happy Hearts

To make the point that lying is bad news and destroys the joy in relationships, the mum said, “OK, for the next whole week you won’t know whether I’m telling the truth or lying.” The next day, driving … [Read more...] about Trust

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
