The Kings Bride

The King's Bride - Sermo Humilis

The day of the wedding had arrived. Having paid the highest price, the king entered the city he had made and chose a bride from among his own people. Dressed in white, her beauty needed no paint or powder. The work of heavenly hands, her smile and soft perfume radiated … [Read more...] about The Kings Bride

#52 Jesus, Words that Matter - The Life and Times of Jesus

Our faith wavers. The promises that Jesus makes are rock solid. Sheep are those who hear His voice and follow. But more importantly, sheep are those who are in the hands of a Shepherd who will not let them go. The disciples can say things like, “Even if all others abandon you, … [Read more...] about Jesus, Words that Matter

On Getting Lost _ Proverbs 3_1 - Sermo Humilis

The reason I don't get lost on my way home from town is that I know where I live. I know the way so well that even on dark and stormy days, even when others stop me and point me down another road, I carry on my merry way, whistling a hymn as I go. You can also tell without too … [Read more...] about A Lamp Unto My Feet ~ Proverbs 3:1

Our Sentimental Rags

No Storm Can Shake - Sermo Humilis

We live in a culture that idolises sentimentality. We enthrone emotion as the standard by which we measure what is true, beautiful and good. In such a state, man filters his world according to how it makes him feel. A statement is judged offensive or acceptable according to his … [Read more...] about Our Sentimental Rags

Full of Grace and Truth

14 March 2019 By David Trounce

Grace and Truth - sermo humilis

What should the world see when it looks at us? It should see Jesus Christ. Not a list of man-made regulations under which to bury Him, and not something approximating Oprah at a rave party. Our actions and our speech are always pointing somewhere. Either we are saying and … [Read more...] about Full of Grace and Truth

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
