Forward Escape - Sermo Humilis

Jesus was non-compliant. He did not live His life along the lines drawn by the religious leaders or even the civil leaders of His day. He lived His life along the lines laid out for Him by God and taught His disciples to do likewise. This did not require rebellion. It required … [Read more...] about Plant and Build

#09 God's Unfailing Love - A Survey of Christ in the Old Testament

Do you feel that God loves you? Do you sense His affection, or do you fear His rejection? This is a question that some think inappropriate. Some would say that my feelings are not the point and that what matters are the facts. Or, “it's not what you feel, but what you think that … [Read more...] about #09 God’s Unfailing Love – OT Survey

Be Not Blah - Sermo Humilis

When Jesus flipped the conversation in Matthew 5:13-16 from, "You are the salt, your are the light," to, "I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it" in Matthew 5:17-20, He was not changing the subject. The subject was our presence in this world as salt and light. The … [Read more...] about Be Not Blah

#08 God is My Neighbour - A Survey of Christ in the Old Testament

In Galatians chapter five we read, For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself." (Galatians 5:14) This is a remarkable statement, don't you think? Everything that the law teaches and demands can be summed up with the command to love … [Read more...] about #08 God is My Neighbour – OT Survey

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
