Just a Thought

For better or worse, sometimes I only have a single, unqualified thought. This seemed as good a place as any to drop off some shareable quotes, poetry and a nuisance idea for those who need a shot.

Our Sneaking Suspicion

Our Sneaking Suspicion - sermo humilis

It is a common question that stumps many. “What about that innocent man or woman living in the deepest darkest jungle who has never heard about Jesus or God or the Bible: Will this man go to heaven? It's a great question and my answer would be yes. No doubt about it. That man … [Read more...] about Our Sneaking Suspicion

When the Laughter Dies

The End of Joy - sermo humilis

The joy of the Lord is our strength; and laughter, as the wise man said, is the best medicine. This may go a long way to explaining why western culture has become so weak and sick. In his book, A Study of History, Historian Arnold Toynbee studied 28 great civilizations … [Read more...] about When the Laughter Dies

Broken Bread

Broken Bread - sermo humilis

Good Friday. It was the last Passover before His death. Jesus held Himself in His own hands and broke what He held as bread for the world. No one made Him do it. He laid His life down of His own accord, and when He was ready, He took it up again. When Abraham was told by God … [Read more...] about Broken Bread

On Being Made Clean

On Being Clean - sermo humilis

There is an old saying that, "You become like the people you hang 'round." This is true, as far as it goes - which is usually downward. Holiness is not contagious. But Man, in his fallen state, can and will pollute what he touches. Throughout scripture, goodness is not the … [Read more...] about On Being Made Clean

Full of Grace and Truth

Grace and Truth - sermo humilis

What should the world see when it looks at us? It should see Jesus Christ. Not a list of man-made regulations under which to bury Him, and not something approximating Oprah at a rave party. Our actions and our speech are always pointing somewhere. Either we are saying and … [Read more...] about Full of Grace and Truth

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
