It's not a mark of defeat but a tactical manoeuvre. Withdrawal lets you catch your breath, duck for cover and refuel. It … [Read more...] about Fighting Shy

The Slimy Pit

A Slimy Pit - Sermo Humilis

The Holy Spirit spoke beautifully through David, causing him to record his own experiences and at the same time, express truths that went beyond the experience he was trying to describe. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and … [Read more...] about The Slimy Pit

Black Plagues and Beautiful Feet - Sermo Humilis

No hugs, no kisses, no handshakes. That's the media mantra currently trying to control public and private behaviour in 2020 as fears of a viral pandemic escalate. Just what mankind doesn't need: More isolation from his fellow man. How should Christians view the fears of their … [Read more...] about Black Plagues and Beautiful Feet

Tokens for Those he Loves - Sermo Humilis

God loves the material world, for He made it. He loves us material beings, for He made us, and placed on us the highest honour by making us as those who bear His image. There is a tendency to reject the material world in favour of some idea of a super-spiritual Christianity. … [Read more...] about Because His Love is True

What to do with your junk - Sermo Humilis

Another year over and most of us are talking about the year ahead. But what about the year behind? What about the last 10, 20 or 30 years behind? What's hiding back there? Imagine for a moment that the sum total of your life's experiences are down there in the shed labelled … [Read more...] about What to do with Your Junk

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
