Fellowship with Hands and Feet - Sermo Humilis

So, you're a minister and you're up to you're neck in Corinthian pride; Galatian foreskins and Ephesian wolves. You have busted your guts for the saints and now you're in prison with Nero breathing down your neck. Who is likely to care enough to risk life and limb to provide for … [Read more...] about Shoulder to Shoulder

This world was built as a house for man and into which God has chosen to become our neighbour. Throughout scripture, houses are places of fellowship where meals are shared as well as places of evangelism where the Good news is heard and believed. Job - sermo humilis

The book of Job is a difficult book to read and so it is often a book that is avoided. One reason we avoid Job is simply that it bothers us. The book of Job is about a faithful man, a son, who is struck down by God. And even though he is restored at the end of the story, no one … [Read more...] about Afraid of Being Noticed

The righteous shall inherit the land - sermo humilis

As a Man, Jesus said some things that startled His listeners. He taught them to trust that He could forgive sins, something only God could do. As the incarnate, infinite and eternal God, Jesus was equally startling in that He was genuinely interested in the amount of wine at … [Read more...] about This is My Father’s World

Baptism - sermo humilis

In another era, 1 Peter 3:18-22 would be a fairly straight forward matter with everyone present adding a joyful amen to the visible inclusion of someone into the visible body of Christ. But, we live in confusing times and things are no longer so straight forward. And so, when … [Read more...] about The Baptised Body

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
