The Mighty Sparrow

The Mighty Sparrow - Sermo Humilis

A sparrow, said Jesus, has a street value of about five cents. And yet, despite its fragility and despite its relatively low value, apart from the Father's will, you just can't knock one down. The point being that, if God eyeballs the sparrow with such care and attention, how … [Read more...] about The Mighty Sparrow

#52 Jesus, Words that Matter - The Life and Times of Jesus

Our faith wavers. The promises that Jesus makes are rock solid. Sheep are those who hear His voice and follow. But more importantly, sheep are those who are in the hands of a Shepherd who will not let them go. The disciples can say things like, “Even if all others abandon you, … [Read more...] about Jesus, Words that Matter

Sit Tight - Sermo Humilis

It's natural I suppose to prefer the grace of the prodigal banquet over the grace of the fiery furnace. But in the providence of God, you can't have one without the other. First the pigsty, then the party. According to Jeremiah 25:11-12, the Lord had given the His people into … [Read more...] about Sit Tight, Carry on…

A Jolly Good Dust Up- Sermo Humilis

Isaac went to great lengths to avoid conflict. Until Abimelech busted him having a poolside cuddle, Isaac had been pretending that Rebekah was his sister. When the Philistines plugged up his wells, Isaac moved on and dug bigger wells (Genesis 26:1-33). For some, avoiding … [Read more...] about A Jolly Good Dust Up

All our Troubles Removed by Love

All our Troubles are Removed by Love - Sermo Humilis

Sin troubles the mind. It plagues the conscience, burdens the soul, weakens the knees and pains the heart. But where there is great pain, there is also great pardon. Israel had sinned and her sin was great. Her cities had been destroyed and she now found herself in the misery … [Read more...] about All our Troubles Removed by Love

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
