Broken by Love _ Proverbs 3_11-12 - Sermo Humilis

I think this is true because I believe it to be true about Jesus. No one has ever experienced sorrow for sin as much as Jesus did … [Read more...] about Limping with Joy ~ Proverbs 3:11-12

Jesus, Comfort and Joy

#62 Jesus, Comfort and Joy - The Life and Times of Jesus

In the last few chapters of John, the disciples have become increasingly confused by the turn of events. They were expecting thrones, glory and a victorious kingdom to suddenly appear. They have given up everything and thought that they would gain it all back in Christ. Instead, … [Read more...] about Jesus, Comfort and Joy

Love Yourself - Sermo Humilis

Some people will tell you that the most important thing you can do in life is to learn to love yourself, or that you cannot love others until you love yourself. But self-love is ultimately unsatisfying. It is fruitless. It is lame. It is barren. Self-love gives nothing but … [Read more...] about Loving Ourselves to Death

06 Jesus, The Image of God - The Life and Times of Jesus

The question is often asked of Jesus, "What kind of man is this?" But at the wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11) having established the divinity of Jesus (John 1:1), John confronts us (well, me) with the intriguing question: "What kind of God is this? If God were to become a man, … [Read more...] about Jesus, The Image of God

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
