In the Beginning was the Word, but then Came the Emoji - Sermo Humilis

Okay, so, time to interact with a little bit of our cultures' current affairs. It's hard to resist an emoji. They are a somewhat cute, imminently lazy, and, like flipping the bird, appeal to our little pagan hearts. Our world needs symbols, and God has given us plenty of them. … [Read more...] about In the Beginning was the Word, but then Came the Emoji

The Real You - Sermo Humilis

Someone once asked me, "Are you willing to be fully known?" Being out and about with company in public and feeling like I had to give a swift answer, I said yes. What I meant to say was, "Absolutely not!" If he had asked, "Do you want people to know the real you?" my answer might … [Read more...] about The Real You

#3 In His Image – OT Survey

#3 In His Image - A Survey of Christ in the Old Testament

Like the tabernacle in the wilderness, our world is patterned after a Heavenly blueprint (Exodus 25:40). It provides man with an architectural pattern for his own creative work, his society, his morality and every other sphere of life. This must be true because Man was created … [Read more...] about #3 In His Image – OT Survey

#2 Angels in the Architecture - A Survey of Christ in the Old Testament

Everything in creation bears witness to the character and nature of God. Man, made in God's image, stands unique at the centre of that creation as the visible representation of an invisible God. And the man Jesus Christ is that image made perfect. In the beginning, God created … [Read more...] about #2 Angels in the Architecture – OT Survey

Not a Tame Man

Not a Tame Man - Sermo Humilis

John's Gospel was written during a time of great persecution.  It was written to reassure our hearts that Jesus was and is the Saviour of the world. The One Man we could trust to redeem the world, wash away our sin and raise the dead. Unlike the other gospels, John does not … [Read more...] about Not a Tame Man

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
