Escape to the Creche - Sermo Humilis

We were created to move forward. To move toward maturity. This is obvious in biology and should be obvious when it comes to our emotional and mental faculties. It's also the obvious goal of the gospel. We were made to grow up and in understanding, we are to be men (1 Corinthians … [Read more...] about Escape to the Creche

Various Trials - Sermo Humilis

Lips of Grace _ Proverbs 4_20-22 - Sermo Humilis

Unlike his father David, Solomon didn't have any wars. But he did have words and he knew what words were for. He knew what words could do. Words can wound. They can tear down, destroy and break. They can also build worlds, save souls and heal broken hearts. In Proverbs chapter … [Read more...] about Lips of Grace ~ Proverbs 4:20-22

Two Great Evils - Sermo Humilis

Blaise Pascal once said that mankind suffers from two great evils: Pride and lust. Pride, he said, repels us from heaven while lust binds us to earth.1 I think he's right. Pride causes us to kick against the sovereignty of God in heaven while lust causes us to cling to and … [Read more...] about Two Great Evils

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
