It’s Good to Forget

11 October 2020 By David Trounce Leave a Comment

Heaven, it has been said1, is not a hallway of mirrors. That would be more like a freakish hell than a heavenly bliss. You, you, nobody but you. Seeing nothing, hearing nothing, but you, you, you, for all eternity. Such a world would be joyless agony. Our own … [Read more...] about It’s Good to Forget

Limping with Joy ~ Proverbs 3:11-12

Broken by Love _ Proverbs 3_11-12 - Sermo Humilis

It has been said that of all men, the sorrow of the Christian is the greatest sorrow in the world, and so too, there are none more glad than he. I think this is true because I believe it to be true about Jesus. No one has ever experienced sorrow for sin as much as Jesus did … [Read more...] about Limping with Joy ~ Proverbs 3:11-12

Our Finest Dungarees

Dressed in Dungarees - Sermo Humilis

As it was for the new Christian in Corinth, 65AD, so it is for us today. We come into the kingdom dressed in our finest rags. We come from other churches, other traditions and other cultures. We want to settle into this new life and not have to think too much, not have to wrestle … [Read more...] about Our Finest Dungarees

Marvellous in Our Eyes

Marvellous in Our Eyes - Sermo Humilis

David understood the maxim that "what fills the eyes soon fills the heart." He understood that the wicked had "eyes full of conceit" (Psalm 36:2) just as Peter lived among those whose eyes were "full of adultery" (2 Peter 2:14). In short, it matters what you feast your eyes … [Read more...] about Marvellous in Our Eyes

Jesus, Sons of Jonah

#66 Jesus, Sons of Jonah - The Life and Times of Jesus

We like to reach that part in any lesson where we get to do something. Peter, James and John were men like this. Keen to cut off an ear or call down fire from heaven on some unsuspecting Samarian village. Now, there is a work for us to do, but first, there is a work to be done in … [Read more...] about Jesus, Sons of Jonah

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
