Wisdom Raises Her Voice _ Proverbs 1_33 - Sermo Humilis

The wise-at-heart start with, "What would Jesus do?".  Sure, it's a cliche, but it's a cliche because it's true. Sure, it's unoriginal, but we're not looking for original. We're not looking for hip or woke. What we are after here is wisdom, and Jesus is the Wisdom of God. It's … [Read more...] about Wisdom Raises Her Voice ~ Proverbs 1:33

#44 Jesus, Repentance or Rage - The Life and Times of Jesus

It was the feast of dedication (Hanukkah) and Jesus was walking around the temple. The people were asking, "If you are the Christ, tell us plainly" (John 10:22). Jesus replied that He had told them and that the works He had done in His Father's name were the evidence, but they … [Read more...] about Jesus, Repentance or Rage

The Slimy Pit

A Slimy Pit - Sermo Humilis

The Holy Spirit spoke beautifully through David, causing him to record his own experiences and at the same time, express truths that went beyond the experience he was trying to describe. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and … [Read more...] about The Slimy Pit

#43 Jesus, Numbering Our Days - The Life and Times of Jesus

The tower of Siloam had fallen and killed many. Pilate had slaughtered Israelites and mixed their blood with Jewish sacrifices. The hot-take on the streets of Jerusalem was that the men who had died must be extraordinary sinners and that their deaths were God’s judgement on … [Read more...] about Jesus, Numbering Our Days

The Fatal Art of Comparing

Comparing Each Other - Sermo Humilis

“What about this man?”, asked Peter pointing to the Apostle John (John 21:21). Jesus replied, “What is that to you? You follow me.” Jesus' reply is music to my ears. It's a word that liberates us from the loveless, disheartening and fatal art of comparing ourselves with other … [Read more...] about The Fatal Art of Comparing

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
