Yet His love for those who come to Him in faith is infinite and unconditional. It is this way because it was never dependant on our effort or … [Read more...] about Dirty Feet

The Fatal Art of Comparing

Comparing Each Other - Sermo Humilis

“What about this man?”, asked Peter pointing to the Apostle John (John 21:21). Jesus replied, “What is that to you? You follow me.” Jesus' reply is music to my ears. It's a word that liberates us from the loveless, disheartening and fatal art of comparing ourselves with other … [Read more...] about The Fatal Art of Comparing

Little Gain Without Some Loss

Little Redemption - Sermo Humilis

Two of the most common ways we are taught to treasure Jesus above all else in this world is in the way we deal with loss and in the way we handle forgiveness. And the two things go hand in hand. Forgiveness means letting go of some grievance. It means giving up the charge of … [Read more...] about Little Gain Without Some Loss

The Onlookers

Onlookers - Sermo Humilis

The Gospels are full of accounts of Jesus teaching, healing and giving the Pharisees a drubbing. And one of the interesting things about those incidents was the place of the onlooker. We tend to think of evangelism as direct communication to a person or crowd. But quite often … [Read more...] about The Onlookers

Three Camels in a Tea Cup

Three Camels - Sermo Humilis

We are often told to pay special attention to the little things because it is the little things that matter. True enough. It is the little foxes that ruin the vineyard (Songs 2:15). But, like the church in Jesus day, we are capable of getting our observance of the little … [Read more...] about Three Camels in a Tea Cup

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
