Just a Thought

For better or worse, sometimes I only have a single, unqualified thought. This seemed as good a place as any to drop off some shareable quotes, poetry and a nuisance idea for those who need a shot.

Chained to the Things We Love

Chained-to-the-Things - We-Love - sermo-humilis

People have some odd ideas about hell. They picture little devils throwing parties that involve torturing individuals. But there will be no party in the lake of fire. A better description might be, “The place where you get everything you ever craved.... without the … [Read more...] about Chained to the Things We Love

Extraordinary Evidence

Evidence - sermo humilis

Someone once said, that, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." And I agree. But we must decide on whose shoulders that burden of proof lies. Here, we have the claims of scripture, grounded in history and fulfilled in time, about who Jesus is. God, Man, judge … [Read more...] about Extraordinary Evidence

The Sin Bearer

The Sin Bearer

We tend to have a petty view of sin. Not that we think too little of it, but that we think too much of it. We see our sin and see no hope. No hope of serving a God who smiles upon us. No hope of being in His company without experiencing His unhappy looks. You and I are sin … [Read more...] about The Sin Bearer

There is the music of Bach - sermo humilis

June 21st is world music day and that gives me the excuse I needed to say something about Bach. In April 2009, British atheist, A.N. Wilson (Author of Dante in Love and the Lampitt Chronicles) shocked the world by announcing that he was returning to Christianity. When asked in … [Read more...] about Music to My Ears

Authentic

Authentic - sermo humilis

A fading beauty steps into a hip city cafe. Her brow filled with botox, eyes and lips coated in Monsanto's finest. Her hair and nails look and feel like nothing found on earth. She checks with the waiter (twice), “Is the tofu organic? Is the chicken steroid free?” Why? Because … [Read more...] about Authentic

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
