The End of Darkness - Sermo Humilis

In Isaiah’s day there were dangers all around. The Middle East, like today, was a place of ever-threatening war. The year is 734 BC. Syria and Israel had joined forces to attack and divide up Judah. The Reason? For some time Syria and the breakaway ten northern tribes of … [Read more...] about The End of Darkness

God is Good

The Goodness of God - Sermo Humilis

Some consider the idea that "God is" to be the ultimate leap of faith. Others say that it's the death and resurrection of Jesus or that they can't get past the idea that God created and governs the entire universe. These all require faith, but the ultimate leap of … [Read more...] about God is Good

To those Who Believe - Sermo Humilis

In Mark 10:17 we meet a rich young ruler. Given our envy, as soon as we read that he is rich, (and young, and a man!), it may be tempting to draw an unflattering conclusion about what he is like. But this guy has all the outward appearance of a fine Christian man. With his … [Read more...] about To Those Who Believe

Living in Babel

13 November 2022 By David Trounce

Perhaps one of the most significant ingredients in a healthy and productive society, a happy family, or a peaceful community is a shared language. This shared language necessarily includes shared definitions about the world we live in. Where a common language no longer exists … [Read more...] about Living in Babel

Your Last Day

You Have Today - Sermo Humilis

The church I grew up in had a perpetual interest with what the bible calls, the "Last Day". Sermons, studies, and conversations were peppered with Final Judgement stories that were vivid enough to scare you, but also distant enough to be dismissed as soon as the … [Read more...] about Your Last Day

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
