Just a Thought

For better or worse, sometimes I only have a single, unqualified thought. This seemed as good a place as any to drop off some shareable quotes, poetry and a nuisance idea for those who need a shot.

Words Fitly Spoken - Sermo Humilis

It's been said that a person's vocabulary is a predictor of their comprehension. In other words, a person with a small vocabulary is less likely to understand what he is reading or hearing than a person with a large vocabulary. Makes sense. Scripture encourages us to have a … [Read more...] about Words Fitly Spoken

The Mouth of the Righteous

The Mouth of the Righteous - Sermo Humilis

There's an idea making the rounds these days that being sweet, soft and agreeable somehow makes you good. That the talkative guy who's in touch with his feminine side is somehow virtuous. That the young woman who's agreeable to anything and everything is somehow tolerant and … [Read more...] about The Mouth of the Righteous

The Vanity of People Pleasing - Sermo Humilis

When it came to eating food offered to idols in a way that pricked the conscience of a new believer, the Apostle Paul said that he would seek to please that believer and give up eating meat (1 Corinthians 10:33). He also said that he wasn't the least bit interested in pleasing … [Read more...] about People Pleasing

Doing What Jesus Would Do - Sermo Humilis

In Ephesians 5:1-2, the Apostle Paul urges the church to be imitators of God. Specifically, Paul calls us to walk in the same kind of love that Jesus walked. The kind that leads us to offer ourselves up to God for the sake of others (cf. John 13:34). This kind of imitation is … [Read more...] about Doing What Jesus Would Do

God’s Wonderful Plan

4 August 2022 By David Trounce

A wonderful plan for your life - sermo humilis

The Bible anticipates persecution for the saints. We often don't. We tend to anticipate a life lived in lollypop lane. Consider this, therefore, a corrective tract for peddlers of the prosperity Gospel in our day. Having done our penance we expect our Heavenly Father to shower … [Read more...] about God’s Wonderful Plan

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
