In the 20th century, being radical meant pursuing your lusts uninterrupted with multiple strangers. In the 21st century, being radical means finding a girl you like, marrying her, and having some babies. And, if you're really radical, having some white babies. Be Not Blah - Sermo Humilis

When Jesus flipped the conversation in Matthew 5:13-16 from, "You are the salt, your are the light," to, "I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it" in Matthew 5:17-20, He was not changing the subject. The subject was our presence in this world as salt and light. The … [Read more...] about Be Not Blah

Organising Our Thoughts - Sermo Humilis

D.A. Carson once said that students do not learn everything you teach them. What they do learn is what you are excited about. They learn what you emphasise and they learn to organise their own thoughts around those things. The same is true of our own children. If what excites … [Read more...] about Organising Our Thoughts

Building on The Rock - Sermo Humilis

At the end of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:24-27), Jesus instructs His disciples to be careful how they shape their lives and conduct. Lack of attention to the foundation will lead to ruin. The foundation in this parable is a rock. Everyone then who hears these words of … [Read more...] about Building on The Rock

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
