#51 Jesus, His Love for Us - The Life and Times of Jesus

Our attempt to find assurance by looking inward and measuring the quantity and quality of our love for Jesus is a fruitless task and rarely ends well. Thankfully, the grounds of our salvation is not our love for Jesus but His love for us. John chapter 10 is the last of Jesus' … [Read more...] about Jesus, His Love for Us

On Getting Lost _ Proverbs 3_1 - Sermo Humilis

The reason I don't get lost on my way home from town is that I know where I live. I know the way so well that even on dark and stormy days, even when others stop me and point me down another road, I carry on my merry way, whistling a hymn as I go. You can also tell without too … [Read more...] about A Lamp Unto My Feet ~ Proverbs 3:1

#50 Jesus, Little Ones - The Life and Times of Jesus

Luke 17:1-10 brings to a close Jesus meal with the Pharisees. Now, Jesus tells His disciples that it will be a horrible day of judgement for those who neglect or lead astray the weak among them. It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast … [Read more...] about Jesus, Little Ones

Lord God is my strength and my song - Sermo Humilis

Satan was the direct actor in the calamity that cut down Job. Job knew the Sabeans had struck his servants and he knew that the Chaldeans had raided his camels, but what Job said was, "The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job … [Read more...] about Lord of the Panic

#49 Jesus, When We Die - The Life and Times of Jesus

In Luke 16:19-31, we meet two men. The rich man in this event was an idolater. He knows who God is but he suppresses it with cheesecake, leg ham and satin sheets. At death, he finds himself in Hades awaiting a final judgement. The other lad, a man called Lazarus, also dies and … [Read more...] about Jesus, When We Die

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
