Be Fruitful and Multiply - Sermo Humilis

At the beginning of creation, God said to Adam and Eve, "Be fruitful and multiply" (Genesis 1:28). It wasn't an arbitrary command like, "Do this or else," but more like a simple statement of fact as in, "This is the way things are." It's like God said to the fish, "Here is the … [Read more...] about Be Fruitful and Multiply

Taking His Name in Marriage - Sermo Humilis

A wedding ceremony is a big deal, and signals one of the most significant set of changes a person will ever make in life. Long Live the King - Sermo Humilis

A monarch is like a fixed star, the North Star. In some strange way, we navigate and orientate our lives around them. They symbolise law and order and reflect the values, culture and history of the society over which they reign. A monarch also represents and symbolises the … [Read more...] about Long Live the King

One Battle at a Time - Sermo Humilis

The demands of Jesus for loyalty are total. He is the Lord of Lords. But if we try and deal with those demands in total, we are quickly overwhelmed. It is no different to our anxiety over clothes and food. If I begin to contemplate how I will feed my family several kilos of … [Read more...] about One War, Many Battles

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
