The Marriage of Matthew and Sarah

Wedding of Matthew and Sarah - sermo humilis

In the beginning, God took unformed matter and began a process of division. Heaven, earth; Day, night; Light, darkness; Land, sea, ...and finally Man and woman. The goal of the gospel, which is to say, the goal of all history, is the reunion of things separated. That … [Read more...] about The Marriage of Matthew and Sarah

1 Week Before Marriage - Let the Bed be Holy

Honour is not something that can be tucked away in the secret places of the heart. The man who says he honours his wife "secretly" while belittling her publicly is a fool and a liar. Honour, like dishonour, always bubbles to the surface. One of the ways we express this honour … [Read more...] about 1 Week before Marriage – Let the Bed be Holy

2 Weeks Before Marriage - 2 Weeks before Marriage - Please Remain Calm

A veil is a covering that conceals and separates. It is designed to keep people out and maintain holiness within. As with the priesthood of Israel, so too in marriage. For some other guy to go behind the veil without the necessary credentials spells disaster (Leviticus … [Read more...] about 2 Weeks before Marriage – Please Remain Calm

3 Weeks before Marriage - House and Fishing Gear - Sermo Humilis

It's an easy mistake for a husband to make. He reads in the bible that he is the head of the wife and then begins to fill this language with ideas from elsewhere: From his stint in the Army, the shift manager at work, or from leadership tips picked up at the pub. In short, … [Read more...] about 3 Weeks before Marriage – Her House, His Fishing Gear

4 Weeks Before Marriage - Enough Wine for Everyone - Sermo Humilis

My wife and I made a mistake in planning for our wedding day. Actually, the error lies with me. I thought that good stewardship was the goal when it came to the wedding day expenses. I thought that frugality was the way to honour God with our money on the day. I think I was … [Read more...] about 4 Weeks before Marriage – Enough Wine for Everyone

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
