Man is able to compromise regarding the third and for a time drown out the second. But he is powerless to do … [Read more...] about He Shall be Their Peace

27 Jesus, Insider Trading - The Life and Times of Jesus

In Matthew 6:19-24, Jesus teaches us that we must not be graspers, anxiously in pursuit of the kind of earthly treasure that does not last. He teaches us not to seek our comfort in things that perish. Instead, we are to seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, with the … [Read more...] about Jesus, Insider Trading

Thumb Suckers - Sermo Humilis

The gospel calls us to maturity, to complete manhood. It's written in scripture and it's written in our DNA. The mind and body are geared for growth and are a metaphor for what is meant to happen as we grow in Christ. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a … [Read more...] about Thumb Suckers

26 Jesus, The Battle for Mercy - The Life and Times of Jesus

The first request in the Lord's prayer is a call to war. In order for the Kingdom of God to come, your kingdom must go. Surrender or defeat, these are our options. This is the kind of defeat that Christians are called to pray for. The kind that brings about the triumph of … [Read more...] about Jesus, The Battle for Mercy

That the World May See

Making Jesus Visible - Sermo Humilis

Hope is energising and is the result of a hopeful vision. Without hope, we are resigned to either indifference or despair.  And without a hopeful vision, we are destined to walk around aimlessly as we slowly waste away. (Proverbs 29:18). And, so, as Christians, we need to have … [Read more...] about That the World May See

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
