Who we Are Instead

The world loves to lay hold of the dictionary and determine the definitions. Politics, religion, faith, male, female, truth, lies.... and more. I prefer the old, unchanging definitions. I prefer reality.

Substitutes - Sermo Humilis

I was at the local shopping centre recently and I noticed big posters promoting fake meat sausages. Meat substitutes are not new, but in the last six months, there has been an increasing push for these substitutes. They have been winning awards left, right and centre, promoted by … [Read more...] about Substitutes

A Face to Gladden the Heart - Sermo Humilis

You and I are the image of God. In sin, and outside of Christ, we are like a slowly fading photograph that will one day perish. In Christ, we are born again. We have passed from death to life, and as we stand unveiled before Him each Lord's day, our faces are being sculpted and … [Read more...] about A Face to Gladden the Heart

Happy to be loved - Sermo Humilis

While Peter was a married man and probably among the oldest of the disciples, John was likely only a teenager. Along with Peter and his brother James, these three disciples got to see and hear things from Jesus that no one else on earth has seen or heard. And John wrote all … [Read more...] about A Man Called John

Live Not By Lies - Sermo Humilis

Written on the 12th February 1974, the same day he was arrested by the secret police and sent into exile, "Live not by lies," was Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's call to speak the truth always and at all times, without fear. The issue for Solzhenitsyn then, as today, was this: Are the … [Read more...] about Live Not By Lies

The Testimony of Jesus Christ - Sermo Humilis

Jesus came into this world to bring life to people who were dead. Being dead in this sense does not mean that you can't walk around. Being dead means you can't see. And, apart from God's intervention, man is dead in his trespasses and sins. Blind, dead and under … [Read more...] about The Testimony of Jesus Christ

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
