Who we Are Instead

The world loves to lay hold of the dictionary and determine the definitions. Politics, religion, faith, male, female, truth, lies.... and more. I prefer the old, unchanging definitions. I prefer reality.

Weakness is the Way

When Weakness is the Way - Luger - sermo humilis

Nobody wants to be called weak, at least, not by the world's definition. The world despises the weak and has a habit of crushing them. There is a weakness that can get you crushed. But it is a weakness that's worth having. When God visited His people on the mountain at Horeb, … [Read more...] about Weakness is the Way

Meet the Fool

The Wise and The Fool Proverbs 9.10 - sermo humilis

The fool despises wisdom and discipline. But this not what made him a fool. This is just the evidence. What made him a fool happened way back when he decided God would not be his starting point. The fool is a fool because God is not axiomatic. The fear of the Lord is the … [Read more...] about Meet the Fool

She Lied Like a Trooper

Rahab Lied Like a Trooper - sermo humilis

There is no getting around the fact. Rahab, a prostitute, had a choice to make. She could tell the truth and send two godly men to their death or she could lie like a trooper. Rahab chose to lie like a trooper because she was one. Rahab was prepared to go up against her own … [Read more...] about She Lied Like a Trooper

Low-fat Christianity

17 January 2019 By David Trounce Leave a Comment

We live in an age of doubters. People who are constantly worried about what a firm belief in the truth might do to their reputation. They are happy to taste the menu but refuse to let the truth go all the way down. Their convictions are more like wine tasting than wine … [Read more...] about Low-fat Christianity

Escape to Reality

Escape to reality- Malraux - sermo humilis

We find it hard to admit that we are not who we ought to be. And so we lie to ourselves about ourselves, and then afterwards, we lie to others. We prefer fantasy rather than dealing with real-world guilt. There is this story that I carry around in my head. It’s not a true … [Read more...] about Escape to Reality

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
