06 Jesus, The Image of God - The Life and Times of Jesus

The question is often asked of Jesus, "What kind of man is this?" But at the wedding in Cana (John 2:1-11) having established the divinity of Jesus (John 1:1), John confronts us (well, me) with the intriguing question: "What kind of God is this? If God were to become a man, … [Read more...] about Jesus, The Image of God

Evidence - sermo humilis

Someone once said, that, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." And I agree. But we must decide on whose shoulders that burden of proof lies. Here, we have the claims of scripture, grounded in history and fulfilled in time, about who Jesus is. God, Man, judge … [Read more...] about Extraordinary Evidence

05 Jesus, God's Delight - The Life and Times of Jesus

John, a cousin of Jesus, turned up on the scene baptising the people of Judah with a baptism of repentance for the remission of sin. Jesus came along insisting that John baptise Him also (Matthew 3:1-17). Why? Jesus didn't need His sins washed away. In fact, His sinlessness … [Read more...] about Jesus, God’s Delight

Jesus, God’s Son

7 July 2019 By David Trounce Leave a Comment

The Rabbi's had a saying, “Not he who begets, but he who brings up is the Father.” This is not a quirk of modern psychology. This is the way the world works and something that Jesus taught us very plainly in John 8:39-44. By nature, we do the will of the one who raises us. We … [Read more...] about Jesus, God’s Son

A Shadow of Things to Come

The Shadow of things to come - sermo humilis

The good news of the resurrection is that there is a real you, more 'you' than you can possibly imagine. And as you become more and more gripped by the life of Jesus you become more and more uniquely yourself. You become more and more of what God in Christ has made you to be. A … [Read more...] about A Shadow of Things to Come

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
