#7 Jesus and Parenthood

A family is a culture. It's a colony with citizens. It has its own language, customs, laws and religion. The constitution for this government is written by God and revealed in His word. The head of each family is the husband and his wife, the chief advisor. The subjects of … [Read more...] about #7 Jesus and Parenthood

Little Men Big Mercy - Sermo Humilis

Looking at artist's impressions of the bear attack in 2 Kings 2, you'll notice something. The pictures changed dramatically through time. The older drawings (I am talking older by centuries) tended to depict the Lord's prophets as men with muscles. That's not unreasonable when … [Read more...] about Little Men

The Courts of Mercy - Sermo Humilis

"When the Son sets you free you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). It's one of the central tenets of our faith. Jesus came to set the captives free. But what does it mean to be free? What are we free from, free for? The bible speaks of our freedom in a number of ways. Among … [Read more...] about The Courts of Mercy

24 Jesus, Shaking Heaven and Earth - The Life and Times of Jesus

In Matthew 5:17, Jesus tells the disciples that He came to fulfil the law and the prophets. He came to put them both into force, to accomplish their purpose, satisfy their demands and fulfil their expectations. In the next verse, Jesus goes on to say, For truly, I say to you, … [Read more...] about Jesus, Shaking Heaven and Earth

The Baptised Body

Baptism - sermo humilis

In another era, 1 Peter 3:18-22 would be a fairly straight forward matter with everyone present adding a joyful amen to the visible inclusion of someone into the visible body of Christ. But, we live in confusing times and things are no longer so straight forward. And so, when … [Read more...] about The Baptised Body

Thor's Oak

Around 723 AD, a missionary named Boniface entered Hesse in Germany. Upon finding a sacred tree named Thor’s Oak, he took an axe to it, cut it down and built a church. Many in the town, believing that the God of Boniface must be greater than Thor, left their paganism behind converted to Christianity.
